Mentor Lithuania was formally established in 2004 to become the first of the Mentor family Mentor to be established in the Baltic and Central Europe Region. As with all in Mentor it is a non-government not for profit organization.
Mentor Lithuania focuses on the prevention of drug misuse in its efforts to promote the health and well being of children and young people and to reduce damage to their lives.
Mentor Lithuania's drug prevention work is currently undertaken mainly through its Mentoring programme. This is a method of addressing drug misuse and crime prevention where children's communications and skills are enhanced by developing positive communications with adult 'mentors'. For young people, the mentor / mentee dialogue helps them to have a positive example, strengthens their system of values, and enables them to find solutions to relevant issues through the mentor relationship. It helps develop a key protective factor that can make drug misuse and other negative behaviours less likely and encourage healthy and positive behaviour.
In Lithuania people wishing to realise the potential of mentoring for their employees, and reflect the corporate and social responsibility of their corporation, work with Mentor Lithuania to provide mentors who are trained to undertake this role with young people in schools who join the programme.
