Mentor aims to identify, undertake, support and disseminate best and promising practice in prevention and these are examples of projects that have aspired to this achievement.
The element of project involvement is not the only way Mentor operates. It also has an international website on its work and to help those involved in prevention; it supports and develops its global contribution by working as a family. Mentor works in partnership to support like minded national and international organisations; and it is an advocate for prevention through the relationships it has established with many governments and major organisations such as UNODC, WHO, OAS, IOC and the European Union.
However through its project work Mentor has supported prevention activities in over 70 countries.
It has undertaken approximately 80 projects.
It has helped to make drug abuse less likely and healthy lifestyles more possible for almost 2 million children and young people.
It has "helped the helpers" - over 50,000 practitioners, policy makers, parents, carers, teachers, educators and others - to be better equipped to undertake more effective prevention through their own efforts.
Mentor is unique as an international non-government not for profit organisation, working with a mission to prevent drug abuse and promote the health and well-being of young people.
Mentor is concerned with:
• Prevention of drug abuse and the harm that drugs can cause
• Opportunity for young people to find positive and healthy alternatives to drugs
• Protection by addressing risk and protective factors to make drug abuse less likely |
