Dr. Winters received his BA from the University of Minnesota and a Ph.D. in Psychology (Clinical) from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
His research interests include the assessment and treatment of adolescent drug abuse, the role of ADHD and related disruptive behaviours as risk factors for drug involvement, and early intervention strategies for pre-adolescents who reveal a risk profile for drug abuse.
Dr. Winters has published several assessment tools and numerous articles in the area of adolescent health.
Current research projects include following drug abusing adolescents into young adulthood in order to describe the course of youth drug abuse, prospectively examining the impact of childhood ADHD on the onset and development of drug abuse during adolescence, and testing the effectiveness of brief intervention on early-stage drug abusing adolescents.
Dr. Winters is on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Child and
Adolescent Substance Abuse and the Journal of Substance Abuse Treatment.
He is consultant for many organizations, including the National Institute on Drug Abuse, Center for Substance Abuse Treatment, Hazelden Foundation, World Health Organization and the Mentor Foundation. |
